World Kindness Day 2024?
World
Kindness Day was first established as an observance by the World Kindness
Movement. In 2019, the organization registered as an official NGO under Swiss
law, although its history dates back to a convention held in Tokyo in 1997. At
this conference, various institutions and associations from countries such as
Australia, Thailand, the United States, and the United Kingdom came together
due to their commitment to promoting kindness in society. This event laid the
foundation for the World Kindness Movement, with their inaugural declaration
expressing a "pledge to join together to build a kinder and more
compassionate world." To further this goal, they launched the first World
Kindness Day in 1998.
The
purpose of World Kindness Day, as outlined by the World Kindness Movement, is
to "highlight good deeds in the community, focusing on the positive power
and the common thread of kindness that binds us." Since its inception over
two decades ago, the day has gained global recognition, with events attracting
participants from every inhabited continent. Activities associated with the day
have included concerts, dance mobs, and the distribution of "kindness
cards."
Currently,
World Kindness Day is considered an unofficial observance. However, the World
Kindness Movement hopes to achieve official recognition from the United
Nations. If successful, World Kindness Day would join the ranks of other
recognized observance days, such as International Day of Peace, Human Rights
Day, and World Health Day.
