Holiday Spotlight

St. Francis of Assisi Feast Day

It is believed that Francis, born in Italy to a wealthy cloth merchant, renounced his family and lived as a beggar. He cared for the poor and sick in Assisi, founded the Friar’s Minor, and inspired the formation of the Poor Ladies. Francis traveled to preach the gospel and reorganized the Franciscan orders. Near the end of his life, he received stigmata, died in 1226, and was pronounced a saint two years later.
