Holiday Spotlight
National
Feral Cat Day
The
global spread of cats is believed to have originated in Egypt. Traders and
monks brought them to Europe and Asia to help control rat populations. Feral
cats sometimes live in groups called colonies, and there are managed colonies
where humans provide care for the cats. Conservationists consider feral cats
harmful to the environment and advocate for trap-and-neuter initiatives to
control their population.
