The
Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (V.F.W.) organization was created
in 1913 through a merger of three war-veteran associations founded in 1899. The
organization's mission is to foster camaraderie among U.S. veterans of overseas
conflicts, serve veterans, the military, and communities, and advocate for all
veterans.

Day commemorates the establishment of the V.F.W. on September 29, 1899. The
organization has a membership of over 1.5 million people and 6,000 Posts across
all 50 states, the Asia-Pacific region, and Europe.
To
join, candidates must be U.S. citizens or nationals, former or current members
of the armed forces, and must have served in a war, campaign, or expedition on
foreign soil, airspace, or hostile waters.
