Holiday Spotlight
Seed
Gathering Season
The
U.K. is famous for its beautiful trees, but it wasn't always this way. After
World War II, people started talking more about preserving the environment. In
the early 1970s, the National Tree Council was created to figure out how to
take care of the dwindling trees. But then, in 1987 and 1990, devastating
storms hit and destroyed millions of trees. On top of that, Dutch Elm disease
was killing off native elm trees. Despite all this, the National Tree Council
worked hard to make up for the deforestation caused by agriculture and cities
expanding. One of their big projects is the Seed Gathering Season, which
encourages people to gather seeds and inspire the next generation of tree
lovers.
