Holiday Spotlight
Farmers'
Consumer Awareness Day
In
1981, Paul Harvey recounted a story on the radio about a woman confronting a
grocer over the high cost of food items. She was unaware of the hard work that
farmers put in, having no knowledge of farming.
Quincy
farmer Dennis Higashiyama heard the story and decided to take action. He
realized that consumers were disconnected from the farmers and had little
understanding of the effort involved in farming. He sought to bridge this gap
by bringing farmers closer to the public, leading to the creation of Farmers'
Consumer Awareness Day.
This
holiday successfully brings people together to celebrate the importance of
farmers. It also includes various enjoyable activities as part of the
celebrations.
