Holiday Spotlight

  World Elephant Day

Elephants and humans have a long history together. African elephants have been hard to tame due to their vast natural habitat and imposing size. On the other hand, Asian elephants have been living alongside humans for over 4,000 years and are deeply respected. Despite living alongside humans for so long, there's still a lot we don't know about elephants. They have the largest brains of any land animal, making them clever, social, and empathetic. Unfortunately, we are endangering their future by threatening their habitats and engaging in poaching and illegal ivory trade. Losing them would mean losing a valuable environmental caretaker. To save elephants, we need to enforce stronger protection laws against poaching and the illegal ivory trade, manage their natural habitats better, and protect their sanctuaries.
