 In the year 1509, on a crisp September morning, the city of Constantinople awoke to a rumbling terror. The ground shook violently, buildings swayed, and people screamed in panic. The 1509 Constantinople earthquake was a seismic catastrophe estimated at 7.2 to 7.5 on the Richter scale. The impact was immediate and devastating.
