Highlighted Holiday

NATIONAL RAT CATCHER’S DAY

According to the Brothers Grimm and Robert Browning's poem, the Pied Piper legend is celebrated on June 26 and July 22. It's said that something traumatic happened in the German town on June 26, 1284. Some say the children may have died from natural causes, while others believe they joined the Children’s Crusade of 1212 and faced slavery or death along the way. Today, the Pied Piper is still a big deal in Hamelin, with Pied Piper-themed spots all around. Rat-catchers back in medieval times were responsible for getting rid of pests like rats. They used trained animals and traps, and the job didn't pay much.
