Maharana
Pratap Jayanti Day
Maharana
Pratap, born in 1540 to King Maharana Udai Singh II, symbolized
resilience. In 1567, Chittor, the capital of the Kingdom of Mewar, was attacked by the Mughal Empire led by Emperor Akbar. After his father's demise in
1572, Pratap Singh ascended to the throne and was resolute in his mission to
reclaim Chittor. He stood firm despite facing a formidable Mughal force,
refusing to compromise the kingdom's independence. His unwavering principles
earned him respect, even from Emperor Akbar. It was believed that Maharana
Pratap stood over 7 feet tall, and he wore body armor weighing over 150 lbs., As
well as a spear weighing 175 Lbs. With 11 wives and 22 children, his eldest
son, Maharana Amar Singh I, succeeded him as the 14th king of the Mewar
dynasty. Maharana Pratap's life ended in 1597 after a hunting
accident, but his legacy of honor and love for his people lives on.
