1830—The Canterbury and Whitstable Railway is opened. It is the first steam-hauled passenger railway to issue season tickets and include a tunnel.

1921 – West Virginia becomes the first state to legislate a broad sales tax but does not implement it until a few years later due to enforcement issues.

National Specially Abled Pets Day is a beacon of hope, inviting you to consider adopting a specially abled animal and discover the joy of meeting its unique needs. The journey of a specially-abled animal in the wild can be perilous, with a broken limb or lack of vision often leading to immediate death. But you have the power to change their fate, bring them into the safety and love of your home, and witness their lives' transformation.

 The day honors the guardians who care for specially abled pets and sheds light on the challenges of taking on such a responsibility. The journey is not easy, but it is worth it, says Colleen Paige, who dedicated May 3 as National Specially Abled Pets Day in 2006. People's experiences with specially abled pets can be different. People learn the intricacies of raising a pet in challenging circumstances while keeping up with their daily needs.

 Disability in pets is a common occurrence, often caused by old age, diseases, or injuries. But with the right care and love, they can overcome their conditions and embrace life to the fullest. Sadly, pets with disabilities are often overlooked for adoption. When you bring a pet home, consider the change in their environment and the steps you can take to make their stay comfortable and enriching. The day aims to raise awareness of the incredible companionship that pets, regardless of their physical limitations, can offer.
