Holidays And Observances

National Awkward Moments Day

Humans have been experiencing awkward moments since the beginning of time. Some of the earliest documented instances include Isaac Newton incorrectly predicting the end of the world, a football team running a touchdown to the wrong side of the field, and President Roosevelt accidentally encountering Churchill naked after a bath.

With the advent of technology and social media, the number of awkward moments that are made public has increased exponentially. Some more infamous moments include Janet Jackson’s “Nipplegate” at the Superbowl, Ashlee Simpson lip-synching at a concert, and Ariana Grande being caught on camera licking a doughnut at a bakery before putting it back.

In the digital age, texting, dating apps, and social media have created a new level of awkwardness. We’ve all been there - accidentally swiping right on a coworker, liking a crush’s Instagram post from years ago, or even sending a screenshot of a message back to the person we were texting!

Despite the embarrassment, accept that awkward moments are part of being human and can be fun to laugh about. After all, the history of embarrassing moments is long and varied, reminding us that we’re all in this together.
