Holidays And Observance

Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday marks Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem, where people welcomed him by laying down palm fronds and their cloaks on the ground. Some accounts mention Jesus waving palm fronds as he passed by. The people shouted "Hosanna!" which means "God saves" or "Save now," and saw Jesus as the king of the city, aware of his miracles. This Day also fulfills the prophecy of Prophet Zachariah about the Messiah bringing glad tidings to Jerusalem.

Riding symbolizes peace and victory, with the palm representing these ideals, while Jesus' choice of riding a donkey symbolizes peace rather than hostility. This Day, also known as Passion Sunday, is followed by other significant days like Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.

Many people celebrate Palm Sunday by visiting churches, reenacting Jesus' entrance, and cherishing palm fronds, considered sacred and later used in ash form on Ash Wednesday.
